Measuring Board Feet

Measuring board feet with our tablets in Ritter Park, Huntington, WV.

William, Brian, and I measuring the circumference of a tree in Ritter Park, Huntington, WV.

*Steps in measuring board feet:
1. Measure the diameter of the tree.
2. Tree height (66 feet from the base of the tree). I used my Android tabliet with the clinometer app.
3. Find the volume of the tree.
4. Change cubic feet to board feet.
5. I used a google doc to help me figure out the board feet. It was much easier to plug in then trying to figure it out on paper or in my head.

*1 cubic foot = 12 board feet
*board feet = amount of usuable wook in a tree
*foot wide, foot long, 1 inch thick = 144 cubic inches

*The first tree that we mearsured was a Pin Oak and was the 6th tree from the 8th street corner.
-I walked my 30 steps (66 feet).
-Used my clinometer on my tablet and mearsured the tree at 65%.
-We mearsured the circumference of the tree at 148 inches.
-The board feet that we figured out would have been 1,558.64.

*The second tree that we mearsured was also a Pin Oak and was the 2nd tree from the drinking was fountain.
-It's board feet was 2,360.25.
