Trip- Day 6 Friday July 20, 2012

Trip-  Friday July, 20, 2012
1-Water Testing the Greenbrier River
We tested our site #3 of the Greenbrier River. We tested for dissolved oxygen, temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, and pH. The results showed that 45.29 was the stream water quality, this leaves it at a fair condition.
As a class, we will be testing water from different streams, rivers, and ponds.  I will have the charts and directions for you to follow.
2- C&O Railroad Museum in Clifton Forge C&O Railroad Museum
My fellow teachers and I visited our last stop for the trip. The C&O (Chesapeake and Ohio) railroad is located in Clifton Forge, Virginia. This railroad ran from St. Louis, Missouri to New York, New York. There was also a stop in between called Huntington, WV. This is located down town…now called CSX. We will be doing some lessons on trains.
Our group saw a coal/steam powered locomotive that use to run in the late 1800s and early 1900s. (Check out my pictures below.) We also experienced different kinds of cabooses and dining cars. This was an experience that I never thought I would have the chance to see.
Facts about the C&O Railroad:
1.       The 612 Engine will get up to the speed of 120 mph.
2.       The Engine alones weighs 462,000 pounds
3.       The Gadsby’s Dinner Tavern (George Washington) was first ran in 1932.
4.       On the pull and push car (pump car) the workers would ride it up to 80 miles a day when working on the railroad.
